Your Tax Resolution Process in Detail

Initial Consultation

To assist you with your current tax problem, our certified tax resolution specialists at Tax Help Advisors, LLC must have a clear understanding of your current situation. We only take cases where we can truly make a difference.

Evaluation & Engagement Process

Once Tax Help Advisors, LLC determines we can help resolve your tax problem, you will be asked to sign a Letter of Engagement before proceeding.
  • This letter will clearly outline the scope of our work and your costs involved.
  • The letter will also outline what is expected of each party during the engagement period.

Discovery & Analysis

When Tax Help Advisors, LLC receives the signed Letter of Engagement and retainer fee, the first thing we will do is determine the information the IRS has on file about you.
  • This is done through an Account Transcript which lists all your transactions with the IRS for a particular period or periods of time.
Power of Attorney
  • At this point, you will be asked to sign a Power of Attorney authorizing Tax Help Advisors, LLC to represent you before the IRS.
  • Once our Power of Attorney (POA) is active, we will then pull your tax transcripts from the IRS for the years we have POA access and create your Tax Analysis Report. (See Sample Tax Analysis Report to the right.)

We will determine your IRS tax issues and the best resolution by using this transcript information along with any information you have already provided to us. This process takes approximately 1 to 2 weeks to complete.

Compliance (All Tax Returns Filed)

Modification or settlement is not possible unless you are current with all your filing of tax returns.
  • Tax Help Advisors, LLC will work with you to ensure compliance with the IRS.
  • If you do not currently have a tax professional to help you with your back tax returns, we will be happy to refer you to one.
  • Either way, once we have notified you of the need for the preparation of past due tax returns, it is essential that you follow through on the preparation and filing of those returns as soon as possible.

We cannot proceed with resolving your current tax problem until all returns are completed accurately and filed.

Once we have ascertained that all your tax returns are filed and up to date, Tax Help Advisors, LLC will use the information received during Discovery and Analysis to develop a strategy to achieve a positive IRS resolution.
In many cases, but not always, a resolution will fall under one of the following categories:
  • Offer in Compromise.
  • Installment Agreement.
  • Currently Not Collectible.
  • Penalty Abatement

Based on the best strategy to pursue, Tax Help Advisors, LLC will compile the documentation to present your proposed tax resolution plan to the IRS.
  • Once your proposal has been submitted, we will remain in contact with the IRS and will keep you updated on the progress of your case as well as any additional information the IRS may request.

Tax Help Advisors, LLC will keep you informed throughout the process of our engagement with the IRS.
  • If our proposed resolution is accepted, we will notify you immediately to explain what you will have to do to meet the commitments to the IRS.
  • In some cases, we will need to present the proposal a second time or move to appeals.

Monitor Your IRS Records

For a monthly fee, Tax Help Advisors, LLC will monitor your IRS files and make you aware of any new postings from the IRS.

Finally, you can get back the peace of mind the IRS had taken away.
